God kept me alive in 2000 so I could see Maria's smile. She confirms that everything is good in a world that is filled with hope, kindness, trust and love. These things cancel out the evil that is everywhere. This is a very special picture because this is how Maria looks at me even when there is no camera. I'll try to live up to what she sees — but who could? Even though no one could be that good, I promise to do my best not to disappoint her, or you.

This is the best photo I have ever snapped! It was a candid shot taken in one second with my new iPhone 4S just as Maria was leaving our Japanese class. Magic was embedded somehow. A larger file can be viewed here:
